I'm going to buy a new graphing calculator. Which kind would be best for the ACT/SAT and for college math. Right now, I have a TI-83+. Thanks.

TI89.

Any calculator that you know how to use.

The TI-89 is the most powerful, but the difference between the TI-83 will be minor unless you know how to use it well. So get accustomed to it first and you will do fine.

By the way, I don't think that you can use the TI-89 on the ACT but you may want to verify that.

But if you're going to buy a new calculator, might as well get a more powerful one -- TI89 =)

comparison chart of all TI calculators

The TI-89 is allowed for use on the AP* Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, PSAT/NMSQT, SAT I, SAT II Math IC & IIC.

One of the best things TI89 (and above) has is symbolic (instead of numeric) calculations.

TI89 is not allowed on the ACT, true. It is, however, allowed on applicable CollegeBoard tests.

The main difference is that it has an algebraic solving system (thingy) in it (which is why the ACT won't let you use it).

you can download a program for ti83+ called "symbolic" that solves problems algebraically. it's very usefull.

The best calculator is TI-89, but I wouldn't rely too heavily on using it. Some colleges won't allow you to use TI-89 on test because it is so powerful. So, I would keep the TI-83 just in case.
