definitely raise the sat ii writing - i wouldn't submit that score. whether you need to raise your sat i depends on where you're applying and what their average scores are.

I got a 710 on writing and am planning on applying to the top tier schools. I'm planning on raising it, but what, realistically, do I need to aim for?

If there is something about your application that strikes their fancy, any school in America will gladly take you with a 710 SATII score. If there's nothing that strikes their fancy, it wouldn't matter if you raised to an 800.

Stats don't work that way.
