By Solstince (Solstince) on Sunday, June 29, 2003 - 06:35 pm: Edit

I got my breakdown of what I scored on the SAT for June today in the mail, and was suprised to see that although I missed 1 question(thus 1/4th point) on my analogies, the "raw score" was still 18/18. If you only miss .25 of a point, do they round down? Thus making it possible to miss one+ question(s) on the SAT and still get a "perfect" score?

Also, is it easier to get an 800 on an SAT II? I see a lot of them. Or is it just that the people taking them tend do be higher achievers?

I think if the value is n.5 or above, ETS rounds up.

yeah, but it should be 17/18 (minus 1.25) That's kinda weird that it said 18/18...

Some SAT IIs you can get up to 8 or 9 questions wrong and still get an 800... others, you cannot get one question wrong and keep an 800... however, SAT IIs are based more on studying than SAT Is so most likely you cannot go in cold without taking a class or studying and get a strong score...

If he only lost 1/4 of a point, then it is as if he lost no points at all. (he could miss up to two questions and get an 18)

I'm a "she", and I assure you it said I got one analogy wrong and my raw score was 18/18. Isn't that accurate? That means I got 17.75, which would round in 18.

I'd just love to get an 800 on verbal next time around, but I am the type of person that always has unconventional answers it seems and though I always score high on tests, never score perfect. I always miss one question here or there. That's why it excites me the potential to still be able to get an 800

you guys arent listening to mekekr. i fyou MISS one, meaning u get ONE WRONG, that means ONE whole point gets taken off (cause u didnt get it RIGHT thus u get no point for it thus u have 17) PLUS 1/4 point penalty meaning u shouldve gotten 16.75, or 17!

Duh! You are, of course, correct.

>I'm a "she"<

I apologize.

yes, definately possible, depending on the particular curve. april's (2003) was nice, but it was fairly hard test, too.

There are 19 analogies, 19 sentence completions, and 40 critical reading passages. That adds up to 78 verbal questions. Adjust accordingly.

I missed 2 on Verbal and 1 on Math and ended up with a 1600. It varies slightly depending on the test and its particular format, though.

If you're shooting for a perfect score, it's advantageous to guess *everything*. Let's say it's Verbal and there are 3 that you don't know, and only three (theoretically only). You could:

Guess all 3, possibly get 1 right, and the .5 penalty rounds to nothing; -2 pts.

Omit all 3 and get -3 pts.
