how do you recommend studying for the sat2 writing w/o paying hundreds of dollars on sat classes? also, how do you recommend studying for the free response portion?

I studied the SAT II Writing using prep books from the Princeton Review, and I think I did well on it.

Do you get good grades in English? Do you read a lot? If the answers to these questions are yes, you may not need to study at all to get a good score. (It might still be helpful to review some of the problem types.) Otherwise, I've always found Princeton Review books to be the most helpful for SAT IIs.

I wouldnt advise you to take the writing sat2 w/o any prep, even if you're brilliant in English. Just like most SAT's the question types are pretty standard, so it really helps to go through prev tests/ study guides. Believe me, there are a lot of things about English grammar you'll find you wouldn't seriously think about!
