personal political gain...keep the big picture in mind...they wouldn't really expect you to know whether or not he was the "chairman of HUAC"

Joe McCarthy was a U.S. Senator. HUAC = *House* Un-American Activities Committee.

Senator McCarthy was at one time chairman of the Senate Committee on Government Operations, but was never a member of the U.S. House of Reperesentatives.
