For all you SAT experts out there, I got at 1470 on the April SAT and am trying to decide whether or not I should take it again in the fall. For schools such as UC Berkeley, LA, and SD, do you think a 1470 will suffice or should I try again for higher?

That's about 200 points higher than the avg. SAT score of any of them. However, it really depends on the other facets of your app. If they're up to par, then I would say that you don't need to retake it for those schools.

Are you instate alethio? If you are, I think w/ those scores you are in good shape.

Yes, I'm in Cali. Still though, I've heard horror stories of people with near perfect recs getting rejected from places like Berkeley. Then again, I've also heard from others who scores something like 1200 and make it in, grrr...colleges are just so unpredictable in what they take and what they throw away.

I would take it again even though your scores are good. I got a 1450 and took it again with out studing that much more in between and got a 1490. I was just more relaxed. It is worth the small investment of 26$ and 3 hours for the chance of getting a higher score.

or $26 and 3 hours for the chance of getting a lower score.
in general, i say if you score above 1450, keep it.

1470 is fine; raising it to 1500 won't make any real difference to the schools you list where your SAT II's, GPA, and courses taken are actually all more important than the SAT I.

1400+ is fine for any of the UCs as long as you're a CA resident and have decent EC's/personal statement/grades.
