i like:
Switchfoot

Top 13 in order (favorite songs):

1. Him (Join me in death)
2. AFI (bleed black)
3. Poison the Well (highly recommend 'Ghostchant'
or "for a bandaged iris')
4. Malice Mizer (beast of blood)
5. Slipknot (Vermilion, pts 1 and 2)
6. A perfect Circle (Outsider)
7. Trapt (Echo)
8. Shinedown (45 or simple man, very different songs)
9. Finch (Perfection through silence)
10. NIN (Hurt)
11. Disturbed/Godsmack. - cheating i no, but they fill the same slot in my division of types of music - (Remember/I stand Alone)
12. Tool (lateralus)
13. Breaking Benjamin (so cold)

I enjoy two distinct types of rock. The first is heavy, pump up rock (slipknot, Tool). The second is quieter, often depressing music (Him, AFI) I believe that Poison the Well is a good mix of the two.

Then i like some Japenese rock (Malice Mizer) which is often...odd.

I believe finch is a misfit, how would you categorize it?

I hate:
Good Charlote
Nickelback
Blink 182
Starting Line

I like most good things from the rock/punk genre (even going a little into country, like Johnny Cash) from the Beatles to the early 90s. People/groups I have the most stuff by: The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, CCR, Guns N' Roses, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Phish, Pink Floyd, RATM, RHCP, Rolling Stones, The Clash, The Who, Tom Petty, U2, Van Halen.

I hate virtually anything past the early 90s, exceptions being the Beastie Boys, Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime and a few miscellaneous songs. A few songs by Cake, that song by The Bloodhound gang, a few Deftones songs and that's about it.

Blink 182 is not punk.

Oh yeah, and before anyone says anything about Metallica, Ride the Lightning (1990) is the last album I thought was pretty good. St. Anger sucked.

By Megofou (Megofou) on Sunday, September 19, 2004 - 01:38 pm: Edit

1. Stroke 9
2. Barenaked Ladies
3. Alanis Morissette

That's not entirely rock...but the first is. I love music. Everything from rock to punk to country. (Especially country. Can't list specifics...like too many.)

The only "music" I can't stand is rap. Shudderewwugh.

By Glowingamy (Glowingamy) on Sunday, September 19, 2004 - 02:27 pm: Edit

I am some crazy parasite. I cling onto a band and listen crazily to no end which of course inhibits breadth of knowledge. Usually it's a rock band. In order of current preference, I like: Dir en Grey, The Beatles, X Japan, A Perfect Circle

By Benjamin (Benjamin) on Sunday, September 19, 2004 - 02:38 pm: Edit

Um, I like the classic rock stuff, like the Beatles, the Stones, Led Zeppelin, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Van Halen, Rush, the Doors, the Velvet Underground (Lou Reed rocks), the Who, Yes, Queen, the Clash, the Ramones, Foreigner, Styx, Journey....I could go on forever.

I HATE cheesy wannabe punk music (i.e. Avril Lavigne, Sum 41, Good Charlotte)

By Physicskid123 (Physicskid123) on Sunday, September 19, 2004 - 03:19 pm: Edit

I love Nine inch nails, TooL, and a perfect circle. They are my all time favorites. But I also like stuff like breaking benjamin, chevelle, and afi. I also listen to some classic rock, mainly just led zep and black sabbath. And of course I cant forget Billy Idol, he is awesome.

By Megofou (Megofou) on Sunday, September 19, 2004 - 05:15 pm: Edit

Mmm yes. Journey and Styx. I forget about them everytime I see a thread like this, but they've consistantly had a place in my CD changer for ages.

I agree with the Sum 41 and Good Charlotte being a little too...how shall we say, fake? But I like Avril. Some of her lyrics are really good.

By Ironmaiden (Ironmaiden) on Sunday, September 19, 2004 - 06:00 pm: Edit

Man, some of these bands are really terrible. At least no one's said Creed.

By Vancat (Vancat) on Sunday, September 19, 2004 - 06:05 pm: Edit

Thank god Creed broke up.

I'm surprised nobody how awesome Weezer is.

By Northwestlover (Northwestlover) on Sunday, September 19, 2004 - 06:18 pm: Edit

The Offspring

By Forgottenhawk (Forgottenhawk) on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 12:53 am: Edit

Ummm...

Linkin Park (By far my favorite)
Hoobastank
Less Than Jake
Korn
Blink 182

By Megofou (Megofou) on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 08:30 am: Edit

Ha! Someone had to say it. I liked some of Creed's songs too. About four or five actually. They have a good bad mood playlist.

But then, I was fairly serious. As long as it's not rap, I can usually find some good songs in the group.

By Ironmaiden (Ironmaiden) on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 04:44 pm: Edit

You want a real man's bad mood playlist:

Pantera - F*cking Hostile
Judas Priest - Leather Rebel
Metallica - One
Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name
Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills

Pretty much any speed metal works. See Slayer, Motorhead etc.

By Taffy (Taffy) on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 05:58 pm: Edit

^ yey, some stuff that doesnt suck :)

By Ironmaiden (Ironmaiden) on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 08:48 pm: Edit

That's not all what I normally listen to. See my earlier post, that's just my bad mood playlist. I don't even like Pantera. It should be pretty obvious what my favorite group is, good for any time.

By Taffy (Taffy) on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 10:50 pm: Edit

lets throw in Chimaira, Decapitated, Gwar, Rammstein, Spineshank, and Testament

Neutral Milk Hotel,
Bright Eyes,
Modest Mouse,
The Shins,
Belle and Sebastian,

Weezer

You could also throw in Built to Spill, The Decemberists, Death Cab for Cutie, The Faint, The Fiery Furnaces, Cursive, etc., etc.
