The International Baccalaureate is an organization that designs standardized curriculum programs for schools. The idea behind the program (the IB diploma, at least) is for students to have a solid foundation in every area of knowledge, taking six IB courses per year (they're two year courses) and Theory of Knowledge. Your school must be approved for the programme, your teachers as well, and most of your work is graded externally by IB specialists, and not internally, so your grades can be compared to students' all over the globe. The curriculum is standardized, as are the exams.
Basically, if you haven't heard of it because your school doesn't offer it, it's too late. You can't self-study for it, and you must actually be in a class.
