Well of course, dude. And while I may enjoyed the Rick James skit as much as anyone else, this does not change the fact that someone out there has lost someone very special to them.
By all means, you're free to do whatever you want. Though, if you made a joke, I'd prefer it to be funny; I've seen about 12 variations of the joke on message boards today alone and they're all equally insipid.
However...I do wonder how many people would even care if not for Chappelle's skit...

You can't deny his impression (big or small) on the funk world. The Chapelle Show skit did, if nothing else, add to Rick James' fame-- it didn't create it.

I was generally referring to the prepubescent, easily influenced message board dwelling brats that quote that oh so famous quote ad infinitum. ;-)
As a matter of fact, I do believe that my father toured around with a funk band. I'll have to ask about that...

If it hadn't been for superfreak, would there have ever been a chappelle skit? The philosophy behind it is mindblowing in itself.
