Okay I have this weird clicking problem on the right side of my jaw. Does anyone have this problem?? I was told by a tmj specialist that I need an appliance which i'm skeptical of. I also went to see a tmj surgeon and he said that i didn't need to worry about it. So im very confused. I know you guys aren't doctors but if anyone else has this problem tell me what you did about it.
THanks

I don't know if it's a problem but when I open my mouth to maximun width, there is a clicking sound. My brother also has it, though his is louder.

I say if it doesn't hurt, why do anything about it? My mom and sister have it, mom's hurts her a lot, sister's not so much. They just sorta ignore it...not sure if that's good though.

Well, I figured that as long I didn't have pain in my jaws then I shouldn't really worry about it. Usually I try to avoid opening my mouth wide since thats when the clicking occur. I don't know... I think that tmj dentist was trying to rip me off. 3500$ just for the appliance!

well...i have that, and i think it's pretty cool- it'll be the middle of class and the whole room's quite...then "click, click, click" except it's not really a click, lol- and it's not really that loud...i'm not gonna do anything about it cuz so far it hasn't affected me and only happens when i open my mouth as wide as it can get or if i try to move my jaw in different directions

well i know of a thing when people open up their jaw too much and it dislocates and the person has to get their jaw broke,you literally have your mouth open and you cant close it;

I have the clicking jaw thing going on too!
... And so does the coke addict girl in Magnolia. When I saw that movie, that was the first time I ever saw the clicking jaw exploited on screen. Anyway, I've never been told to seek help for it since it only hurts after doing it, like, 20 times in a row. I agree with Salamanda, though-- I like it. :]

Well, people with severe TMJ sometimes need to buy like... a pad, or a brace of some sort so that they don't bite their tongue or wake up in the middle of the night..
Ugh, I don't know how do describe it. It's kind of if you put playdough in your mouth and sleep with it... except it's safe, and made out of a different material. Is that the appliance you're talking about?
