sorry to those who are not american citizens...hahaha, hope i don't sound chauvinistic...just curious about people's celebratory methods.
tomorrow being the Fourth of July, i was curious as to what people will be up to...BBQ, fireworks (almost burning the house down), nothing, traveling etc.
usually we go to a family friends house thats pretty close by. there is a nice BBQ/pot luck, complete with my aunts friend's nasty Ambrosia (ugh...sorry i can't lie). when we (myself, sisters, family friends kids-- they are like cousins to us-- and other kids) were younger we usually took a dip in her pool (july in northern california can get pretty hot!!) or played Badmitten.
after the BBQ my family sometimes heads out to the city to watch the firework over this beautiful lake.
our plans might be a bit different since most of us are in college and my parents no longer have the desire to have BBQ's...oh well, hopefully we will plan something at the last minute.
alright enough about me...just curious how people spend there holiday, especially since people are home from college at this time ands the last family holiday (in america -- again, im sorry) before thanksgiving.
feel free to share some of your plans (how college has changed them), funny stories and other such mementos...i will be back with a funny story that involves fireworks and closed quaters.
ugh...still can't get over the ambrosia

usually i go to central park every year... but this year my friend and i are feeling particularly lazy/unsociable, so i think we'll just go see spiderman 2 at blackhawk (if it's playing there) then rent '28 days later' because she wants to see it (i however, loathe scary movies) and order lots of pizza and eat lots of junk food and just chill at home and maybe set off our own fireworks if the neighbors don't call the police on us.

ummm, i have to go to parties w/ lots of old ppl to hear "how much i've grown" and then they'll most likely make me play the piano for them...i hate how the elderly luv me
, lol- but afterwards i meet up in Mt. Angel w/ friends to watch fireworks and then there's usually some sleepover thing, fun stuff, eh?

My family has a beach house on Lake Michigan. My grandpa owns the place but never uses it, he's totally loaded and so are all the neighbors. They all think they're better than us because we have loud drinking parties as opposed to their sophisticated small gatherings.
The town is totally packed every year for the 4th, mainly because its about a mile over the Indiana border. Indiana is very liberal with their laws regarding amateurs and explosives. We have an awesome party up there every year, usually about 50 people.
Everyone up and down the beach has tons of fireworks. None of them know what they're doing with them. My cousin lit the neighbor's newly ladscaped yard on fire last year. My dad strung up 10000 firecrackers on the same neighbors gazebo and lit them off a couple years prior. Sometimes we get the water balloon launcher out and attack from on top of the dune.
They of course retaliated when all these gross dead fish washed up on the beach, raking them in front of our house in the middle of the night. Thats class folks, pure class.
So tomorrow I will be partaking in a fireworks extravaganza and all out war with the neighbors. Wouldn't be the 4th otherwise.

lol thats funny ace.
For me....some people are comin over for lunch and for some unusual reason I have to stay at home. Then we have to take the guest to Manhattan to see the fireworks.
It really suks cause I had different plans. My dad however decided to invite them blowole guests over. I was thinking of takin the family to the statue of liberty because they are opening the podium of the statue for the first time since 9/11 tomorrow. And then watch the fireworks rel up close. Also get the good ol bbq grill at central park if there is time. But of course everyting was ruined cause of my parents.

F3arxn03vil...where is this beach located...is it famous...private...im curious cuz it has an interesting name (like you screen name
)
ace...kick some classy ass today
(i guess it wouldn't be america if you couldn't fight against rich folk)...its funny cuz your situation reminds me of mine...my nieghbors sometimes light fireworks it pisses everyone off so its great
demonllama...i haven't been to central park to see the fireworks in so long...for some reason every other year my family would head down to crow canyon road to watch the show over Crow Canyon Lakes Contry Club...every year since then people started to get upset of non-club members coming down to watch so they turn on the sprinklers...arrogant punks...its not even a real country club...just town houses....wait, hope you don't live there in that case turn off your sprinklers.
also... i saw 28 days later...if you hate bloody horror movies you will pass out on this one, sorry
...i had mixed feelings when i saw it then i kinda liked it afterwards...and i don't know if they are playin' spider2 in BH...who cares Black Hawk movies are such crap these days. (crow canyon, regal, and that one in pleasanton are the best!!)

My mother and I was suppose to go to the Taste of Chicago yesterday and see the fireworks but it was raining and gloomy. This noon we had lunch with other relatives at a Japanese Sushi buffet in the mall. Seafood soup does not measure up to BBQ cooking :/. And I had to endure that whole asian parents deal about people bragging about their kids to others and mom talking about me, hehe. It all makes sense now, now that I have been to College Confidential for a while
Later on today me and mom are going to Lisle where they have a festival and carnival to see the fireworks.

well, i ended up going to my uncle's house in Montclair near Piedmont (Oakland Hills -- beautiful area)...we had the best...I MEAN THE BEST BBQ in the face of the planet...my uncle made his famous home made sauce (i think most black families have their own recipes) and my aunt made some really good peach cobbler.
after dinner we sat around watched tv...my aunts got drunk off some champane and started talking crap about everyone, and reminiscing about old times like they usually do
(its not a family gathering unless you have a circle of these woman that know every solution
)...my uncles went up to the den watched some sports and inevitably started talking crap about everyone too!!
(yes, men gossip)
around night fall, we went (all 25 of us) went for a hike up in the hills and found a nice spot the overlooked the San Francisco Bay and we watched all the fire works...we could see
Palo Alto's show,
San Jose Show,
Jack London Square (Oakland's tourist spot),
The Embaradero's show (San Francisco's financial center)
then we headed back to watch a movie

mmm, peach cobbler!
i ended up watching Sleepers instead of 28 days later. it was a good movie!
then we heard the fireworks so we went to the bridges golf course and watched them from there. it was nice and quiet and we had a great view. and we beat the traffic back home.
By Magoo (Magoo) on Monday, July 05, 2004 - 10:33 pm: Edit
ahh bridges...i didn't know that you could see them from there, but i guess the fireworks can make it over the canyon walls huh...
good stuff...i've never heard of Sleepers...who is in it when did it come out...its probably one of those IFC movies.
traffic in Danville...its going to suck after they build that huge community.
By Demonllama (Demonllama) on Tuesday, July 06, 2004 - 12:35 am: Edit
Sleepers was made in 1996 and has Robert DeNiro, Brad Pitt, Kevin Bacon and Minnie Driver in it. Exceptionally good and kind of depressing.
By Demonllama (Demonllama) on Tuesday, July 06, 2004 - 12:36 am: Edit
and yeah i really really really hate that huge community. and dougherty rd is closed until october 30th! grr. oh well, i won't be here anyway.
