The National Coalition Against Censorship is sponsoring a "Free Speech & Democracy" film contest in 2004. Contestants – who must be American residents age 19 and younger -- can submit 4-minute videos of any kind, including documentary, animation, and music, on DVD or VHS format by the deadline of Friday, October 1. Films will be judged on content, artistic and technical merit, and creativity by a panel of renowned writers, actors, and filmmakers, including author Judy Blume and playwright Tony Kushner. The top three winners will receive stipends of $1,000, $500, and $250 and be flown to New York City for a gala event on Tuesday, November 16.
