Who watches WPT and the World Series of Poker?
Who is addicted to the Travel channel on Wednesday nights?
Who loves playing poker on the weekend?
Who dreams about catching the boat on the river?
Who has their own professional poker chips and cards?

Cool thing is where I live we can go to Indian reservations and play in their casions (ages 18+). If it weren't limit holdem, it would definitely be the perfect place to go.

I watch the tournament every once in a while. Poker seems to be all the rage in high schools and especially colleges. Come to me river! Come!

Pokerroom and Partypoker addict here.
Aceofhearts, your parents let you drive 2 hours away just to play poker?!?
By Aceofhearts54 (Aceofhearts54) on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 - 11:57 pm: Edit
haha yeah, I go play with my cousins and their friends. We've been playing for years, but we finally started raising our stakes. We play no limit, but the highest bet at our table is usually about 50. Its so much fun. I'm also the only girl allowed to play at my cousins frat house tournaments. Its an honor. lol My moms pretty lenient on what I do in my free time as long as I keep up my grades. Especially since I haven't let her down by losing lots of money.
I can't wait til I can start going to the casinos, though I've heard your better off just playing with people you know. 4 more months!

$50 in the pot? ... uhh wow i'm poor, well i guess it depends on how many people are playing eh... you guys have any tips for an amateur :-) ... Big 2 is a fun game too, i've never put any stakes on it though
By Aceofhearts54 (Aceofhearts54) on Thursday, May 27, 2004 - 04:49 pm: Edit
Tips for an amateur... Only play with amateurs. Practice practice practice. Play low stakes til you're good. lol Thats what I did. But then again my dad taught me to play when I was like 8...
And trust me, I'm plenty poor myself. There will be about $600 or $700 in chips on the table by the end of night since some kids keep taking the walk of shame to their cars to get more money. But I only buy about $25 in chips. Play smart and you can play with semi high stakes even if you don't have enough money.
Oh, and if you can't spot the sucker in your first 15 minutes at the table, you are the sucker.
We bet on uno sometimes too. 50 cents a card to the winner. We also modify the rules so you can drop "bombs" on people. (draw 16 or so) Good times! lol

People at my school have twice organized our own World Series of Poker. I believe 60 people participated last time. It was crazy awesome.
By Aceofhearts54 (Aceofhearts54) on Wednesday, June 02, 2004 - 11:28 am: Edit
I wish our school would do that. My efforts to teach people to play and enjoy poker haven't been a success...

Hey - have you guys ever run into a problem with winning too much? Problems with friends, or friend's parents? I'm a Dad with a Situation developing.
By Aceofhearts54 (Aceofhearts54) on Wednesday, June 02, 2004 - 06:56 pm: Edit
Well, my friends won't play with me anymore... They aren't mad or anything, they just don't play.
If their parents knew about the money they were losing there might have been a problem though...
What exactly is the problem?

Lets see my life has turned into poker, its pretty ridiculous actually. But if you know all the angles and play on a consistent basis, there really isn't much risk involved tho. I usually just play like 100 dollar buy-ins. 3 and 1 blinds..no limit...sometimes limit (not nearly as fun). Sometimes we'll play higher stakes like 5 and 10 dollar blinds. I never play too high of stakes with my friends, because they all claim to be poor, so we just play 25 and 50 blinds, pretty standard games just for fun.
ACE OF HEARTS, i'd LOVE to meet you. I've never played with a girl before, outside of the indian reservations i play at. Chicks that play poker are HOT.
By Savedbythebell7 (Savedbythebell7) on Thursday, June 03, 2004 - 02:54 am: Edit
Yeah i made 1,500 bucks on party poker in like a month, so I decided just to quit while i was ahead. Because I was up to like 2,500 and I kept taking all these horrendous beats and just getting pissed off. I'd honestly have the ace high nut flush and someone would have the straight flush on top of me. It was horrible. But i'm sure i'll be back.
By Kluge (Kluge) on Thursday, June 03, 2004 - 12:24 pm: Edit
The problem is basically that the parents do know about the money they're losing, and they're concerned that some of the players are losing too much - a few hundred dollars apiece (these are sophomores.) It's not the parents of the kids who are losing the most who are most concerned, actually, but the parents of some of the other kids.
By Aceofhearts54 (Aceofhearts54) on Thursday, June 03, 2004 - 01:14 pm: Edit
Can't say I've ever heard of a situation quite like that. As long as the parents of the kids who are losing are fine with them losing it shouldn't really turn into a big deal. If some parents have such a big problem with it they should tell their kids they can't play. You shouldn't have to worry about it, except for your own kids and how much their losing.
savedbythebell... you live around Chicago by any chance? I'm always looking for a game.
By Savedbythebell7 (Savedbythebell7) on Thursday, June 03, 2004 - 05:24 pm: Edit
unfortunately no, i live in California. But if you're ever in San Diego next year, there are 8 casinos (6 of which are 18+) .
By Aceofhearts54 (Aceofhearts54) on Saturday, June 05, 2004 - 12:16 am: Edit
Hmmm... I've never been to SD. Sounds like a road trip! lol I'll be 18 in 3 months!
