OK, the simpsons are a phenomenon, everyone likes them or has heard about them. Im a huge fan. So which one is the best episode (funniest) and which one is the worst (did Groening die and this is what we're left to watch?)
In my opinion the two funniest episodes are the ones with Homer Simpson taking medicinal Marihuana and the one with the lemon tree.
Worst one is when the Simpsons go to Brazil. It was banned there and I didn't watch it until i moved out of brazil..now I see why it was banned, very ignorant stereotypes...
care to share your opinions?

There was a epsoide a few years ago when the Simpsons went to the World Trade Center in New York because Homer got a boot on his car. I loved that epsoide, however after 9/11 it was pulled.
While the Simpsons are great, I always found Family Guy to be the funniest Fox cartoon.

Any episode with "Itchy and Scratchy" is fine. Ditto for Apu, Ned Flanders and AutoDude.

I've always loved the Halloween specials and seeing the names the writers, et al, give themselves.

The episode they do Planet of the Apes as a musical, that song is a total ear worm. "From chimpan A to chimpanzee, oh, they'll never make a monkey out of me."

The Monorail episode will always be my favorite, but I love all the Treehouse of Horrors and the one where the casino opens in Springfield. I also really like the Who Shot Mr. Burns shows and anything with Sideshow Bob.
Allena- I think they're playing that episode again now, I've seen it a couple times since 9/11.

I liked most of the musical Simpsons (among many others).
The Maison Derriere
There are definitely more, but I can't think of more right now and I gotta sign off....

my spanish teacher said that the fact that Homer is called that way (Homero in spanish) is offensive to the writer of the Odyssey, who goes by the same name, she thinks its an outrage

"my spanish teacher said that the fact that Homer is called that way (Homero in spanish) is offensive to the writer of the Odyssey, who goes by the same name, she thinks its an outrage"
Tell her to find something worthwhile to bitch about.
Back to the topic, come on you people, remember TOMACCO? With the insane farm animals?
Hmm, I wonder would they pull it because of the waves of mad cow?

Yeah, I like epiodes with music too. At the top of my list (not necessarily musical, and in no particular order): Colonel Homer, A Streetcar Named Marge (you just gotta love Ned Flanders screeching "STELLA! STELLA! Can't you hear me yell-a, you're putting me through hell-a! STELLA!!", Marge vs. the Monorail, Lisa's Sax, Krusty Gets Busted, Dead Putting Society, Mr. Plow, King Size Homer, Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala(ANNOYED GRUNT)cious, Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment, Natural Born Kissers. I love all the movie references.

The Tomacco episode was hilarious! I especially the part, from the airing of the Deadly Poke of Zorro..."What part of 'stop cutting my dress off' don't you understand?" Muahahaha
With respect to the original post, I don't see why everyone took such offense to the Brazil episode. I mean, the Simpsons is a total satire on society, providing some comic relief. I don't think Matt Groening was personally attacking Brazil or Brazilians... and the vicious monkey problem is rather humorous. The Simpsons aren't supposed to be taken seriously. If there were rascists slurs latent, I might say otherwise. But until then, I stand firm behind the Simpsons!

I love the simpsons too, but there are some topics that are too delicate to mock.
does anyone have any idea where the simpsons live????? (state)
By Ambitiousyokel (Ambitiousyokel) on Sunday, May 23, 2004 - 09:03 pm: Edit
They've ruled out every one on the show, I believe. But for background, Groening's from Oregon, and a lot would at least tentatively suggest OR. Of course, the geography alone puts Springfield landlocked in some episodes, on the ocean in others, with a nearby river, lake, and high Alp-like mountains (the Murderhorn?).

I love the simpsons. Ive started watching family guy on the cartoon network. It is funny also but not in the hollistic sense. There are specific jokes or moments that are hillarious but the overall plots and characters are not as good as the simpsons.

My favorite episodes are when they parody Hamlet and the Seven Sisters schools

I can't believe no one has mentioned The Raven part from one of the Halloween episodes. I still remember the first two stanzas and the last stanza of that poem solely from the TV show. Heck, I taped it and brought it to Communication class and we watched it. Definitely a classic.

Episode 2F-22: Lemon of Troy.
Bart: "Our Search is hopeless [...] just like that lemon-shaped rock over there."
Bart: "Hey, there's a lemon behind that rock!"

of all the simpson episodes mine has to be the Edison where he tries to make all his inventions and then they all fail until they leave the stuff at edisons museum.but i agree with other posters that Family guy is the new hit.yes it does have some weird moments in it when random stuff comes in but overall its funny.but the best character has got to be quagmire from family guy and the best simpson cahracter is pry grandpa simpson hes the best....

My favorite Simpsons episode, by far...oh there are so many...
However, it is definitely the "Frank Grimes" episode. Remeber that poor unfortunate guy that had to work hard for everything that he had (even though what he had was meager). He was so bitter that Homer, a man so incredibly stupid and lazy, had a home with a wife and two kids and could afford to eat lobster for dinner. His frustration was hilarious.
By Jer728 (Jer728) on Tuesday, June 01, 2004 - 04:22 pm: Edit
Definitely my favorite is the parody of the Odyssey, Joan of Arc, and Hamlet. Hilarious, and dead on.. Well, mostly..
By Aceofhearts54 (Aceofhearts54) on Tuesday, June 01, 2004 - 04:36 pm: Edit
I always thought the Simpsons lived in Illinois. Mayor Quimby has a lot of parallels to Daley (mayor of Chicago). All the corruptness...voting scandals... And Springfield is the capital of Illinois, but Chicago pretty much runs the state. Makes sense to me.
I also like any episode with Ralph, I do a great impersonation of him.
By Vivek86 (Vivek86) on Wednesday, June 02, 2004 - 11:04 pm: Edit
Ralph Wiggum is my god.
And I can't have any one favorite episode...a lot are good and a lot aren't as good...as seasons wear on, the ratio's getting closer to 1, unfortunately.
By Vivek86 (Vivek86) on Wednesday, June 02, 2004 - 11:09 pm: Edit
Also, Family Guy is rawer and less character-oriented. I could never love Peter as I do Homer, Lois as I do Marge, or Meg as I do Lisa. Though I LOVE Stewie. Way more than Bart. Or AS much, but in a different way. I guess that's the way for the two shows, though....I like them both pretty much equally, but in different ways.....though THAT ratio is 1: (19/10) for Family Guy : Simpsons................
By Jlq3d3 (Jlq3d3) on Thursday, June 03, 2004 - 12:04 am: Edit
I dont think the writers actually have a place in mind where they live. It has to be someplace with an ocean close by (burns recycling, jelly fish return, beach house where lisa finds some friends...) yet someplace where a desert is close by because anytime they start driving out of the city, they enter a brown desert area. Also, las vegas is close (when flanders and homer go, when the grandfather goes..).
The only place that fits that description is southern california, but I do not think they live in any actuall place.

Best: King Sized Homer, Sideshow Bob's Last Gleaming
Worst: Some of the very early one's where Homer's voice is different
By Ambitiousyokel (Ambitiousyokel) on Thursday, June 03, 2004 - 10:39 pm: Edit
No way, what the early episodes lack in high-tech animation they make up for with heartfelt sentiment.
Best episode: "Cape Feare" - the brilliant Sideshow Bill episode in which the Simpsons go into Witness Relocation, live aboard a houseboat, and wait for hijinx to ensue.

The worst episode is when the simpons go to africa.
theres too many contenders for best.

Actully while I agree the Africa one did suck, it had one of the greatest things I'm ever seen. It does not get much funnier then the line "It was a Bloodless Coup, all smotherings."

I'm no Simpsons expert (I barely watch the new ones), but it's really gone downhill lately. It used to be classic, especially in the late 90's I think. I remember specific scenes more than anything, though. Some more recent ones (that were suprisingly funny since the episode as a whole usually sucked) - Homer imagining getting killed by the robot at the Oscars, then they do that tribute to people who have died, and the first clip is of Homer. In the anti-kids episode, Milhouse's face suddenly turns into that of an old man. McBain is filming a movie where he's a giant nerd in high school getting picked on by bullies, and then he tears their limbs apart and throws one through the locker. Barney's suprisingly deep short film where he says, "Don't cry for me. I'm already dead."
By Ambitiousyokel (Ambitiousyokel) on Monday, June 07, 2004 - 10:05 pm: Edit
I'd argue that it went downhill, but that they caught the slide. The most recent episodes aren't bad. They're funny, they're not as Homercentric as the bad ones of the last three years or so have been, and they're heartwarming again.

Simpsons' '96 series in my opinion was their absolute peak.
By Whowasthursday (Whowasthursday) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 11:25 pm: Edit
Umm... I dunno if somebody has already pointed this out, but tell your Spanish teacher that he's named Homer because there are actually plenty of people who are named Homer... although the number of parents naming their kid Homer has hopefully dropped off now that he's widely known as a beer guzzling buffoon. (although I mean that in the best sense).
And why is your SPANISH teacher so adamant about an Ancient Greek dude?

I was watching the "Blood Feud" episode today and froze it on an envelope that Mr. Burns sends the simpsons. The adress says Springfield, JI. I guess that concludes that the simpsons don't really live in a specific state...
I'm really proud of my detective work lol

I really liked "The Springfield Files." Combining two great pioneering Fox shows--what could be better? Plus the picture on Mulder's badge was hilarious. http://simpsons.metropoliglobal.com/famosos/3G01DavidDuchovny.jpg

By Magoo (Magoo) on Sunday, June 20, 2004 - 04:13 pm: Edit
man, i kinda feel like a dork but what the hell...
i luv the one where they show a day from the perspectives of all the characters...it was the one with lingo? the grammatical robot...umm, it was the one where Bart/Millhouse were playing with fireworks
i like any of the ones with music (Monorail...Monorail etc.)
LOVE THE HORROR ONES
(the raven, the one where the aliens come and tell marge that the baby is theirs...)
Simpsons are awesome...i wonder how long it'll last.
Now who like Family Guy...although i find it offensive sometimes, i have to admit some of their jokes are hilarious (the one where there is a nuclear holocaust, and they look for the twinkie factory , or the willie wonka episode )
