i'm so sick of high school and can't wait to go to college. does anyone else feel this way or am i the only one?

By Demonllama (Demonllama) on Sunday, October 03, 2004 - 11:40 pm: Edit

that's what i said. now all the drama that was in high school has rolled over to college because everyone still acts like they're in high school.

I felt like that all through high school too. High school and college are totally different in the most refreshing ways. I don't know what colelge Demonllama goes to, but at my college people don't act like they're in high school.

Here at UCR, most people I've met don't act like they are in high school. It's really nice. The people I've met are quite mature. Don't worry, it will be over before you know it! :)

in classrooms, it is completely different in college. There arent any rude disruptions and people dont talk to each other a lot. It's a completely different environment. Teachers do nothing but lecture. No more sidetracking with funny stories or anything, at least for me. Although, out of class, its the same thing as high school. Nobody studies till late at night and we all just play games/watch movies every day. Same as high school.

Oi. College is far better than high school. The only resemblance I see to HS is in the sorority type girls. The ones I've met seem to have missed the transition, but I'm guessing they are the type that never will grow out of it.

Classes are great {aside from some entry level courses). They treat you like a student instead of a prisoner. You can skip without being called to the dean's office and getting a serious lecture and note to your parents. The random busywork is cut out and replaced with tests and papers to actaully see what you know.

As for the social scene, things are definitely different if you live on campus. Your friends become your family. It's like a minicommunity of people your age. I never want to leave...for at least four years.

Oh, and I felt the same about high school junior and senior year especially. It feels like forever, but you'll be out in no time.

By Demonllama (Demonllama) on Monday, October 04, 2004 - 03:24 pm: Edit

Oh I should have added that there is drama because a close friend of mine happens to go to the same school as me, so she's now back to creating drama in my life once again. Hmph.

And I have to agree that one of the best things about college is that you can skip class and if you're wise about which class you skipped, there won't be any consequences. Just make sure you have a buddy in every class so you know what you missed, because you never want to go to the professor to ask what you missed in class.

i would hate to have a class where all the teachers do is lecture. that would be so horibly bad. if i went to jasons's school i'd transfer out of there after one semester, lol. i have *NEVER* had a lecture course. also have never had a class bigger than about 25. i love it when the profs tell stories, especially how they relate to the material. every class that ive had in college (and this is my fourth year) has been taught by someone who has had tons of real world experience. i dont understand how colleges can have a TA teach a course, someone who has no experience teaching what theyre teaching. it's great to have a professor for international business who was the president of a worldwide aerospace company. it's great to have someone for marketing who owns the largest marketing firm in our area. it's great to have someone for human resources that is the hr manager at a 6000 employee corporation. the discussions that we get out of them, are just simply amazing. you can learn the material, plus how it is actually applied in the "real world".

If they stood up there and just simply lectured, i'd fall asleep in no time :)

and yeah, it is nice to know you can skip a class.. i always e-mail my prof's with my reason for skipping class. I actually went an hour late to my one class last week and told my prof i was at Walmart. I think it's only fair.. if they were late i wouldn't want them to give me a BS answer. if they didnt come to class i'd want to know where they were. maybe thats just how it is here since we have small classes (i have about 14 in each class this semester.. give or take a few).. but still...

H*ll yeah I felt that way! That's why I graduated early. I highly recommend you do the same. Take your ged, or graduate-- but get out of there ASAP. IT ISN'T WORTH IT! LEAVE! NOW!

College is wonderful, especially when compared with the torments of high school (I'm not talking about the social madness, I'm talking about BOREDOM and mind-numbing assignments-- though it is all aggravating). And, surprisingly, college work is easier than high school (esp. all that AP class silliness). Bye bye busy work, and hello intellectual funness. So, GO! Off with you!

By Jason817 (Jason817) on Monday, October 04, 2004 - 09:16 pm: Edit

well so far here at UCSD, the courses are boring. I loved high school AP Physics but now it just seems like a boring calculus course with little emphasis on why/how things work. Putting me to sleep. And my math teacher lectures from start to finish without any random funny comments to keep me awake. These classes are jokes. It's been almost 2 weeks and I have yet to start studying yet. There just has never been a point to it so far. And my CAT1 (Sixth College GE course) is worst of all. It's just a philosophy class minus anything interesting to keep me awake.

To (Original Poster): You'll regret saying that one day. Enjoy High School while you can!

I was sick of of high school too but soon i found out how much i was going to miss it. I loved going to football games on friday nights and pep rallys and homecoming, things like that, i still miss high school but maybe its because i dont like the college im at.

By Celebrian23 (Celebrian23) on Tuesday, October 05, 2004 - 07:14 pm: Edit

even though i'm only a high school junior, it looks like all of my friends and me will be applying to totally different colleges, some thousands of miles of way from others, so even though high school is annoying, i know my best friends and I will probably spend our 4 years of college apart for the most part, so i try to make the most out of it

By Fendergirl (Fendergirl) on Tuesday, October 05, 2004 - 10:39 pm: Edit

you'll make more friends in college than you ever dreamed of having in high school. when i go home for summers i go crazy because i'm away from my friends at school.. imagine how i'll feel once i've graduated this spring.. haha

By Anglophile (Anglophile) on Tuesday, October 05, 2004 - 10:45 pm: Edit

Hey Jason817, I know what you mean. All my 3.5 years of high school they try to scare us saying that college will be "much harder". Stuff and Nonsense. I was working so much in my stupid AP classes that I couldn't see straight! The only socializing I had was for "study parties" to pass the AP exams. What a waste of time. The first two years of college were enjoyable, yet easy; and it looks like the next two are going to be the same. I love my classes, my teachers are a blast-- but not much of a challenge. Right now I'm reading Dante's Divine Comedy for the 3rd time... meh... I took high school way too seriously.

And to all the supporters of the "high school experience"-- the only thing I regret about leaving early is that I didn't leave early enough.

By Aim78 (Aim78) on Tuesday, October 05, 2004 - 11:35 pm: Edit

Seriously. High school experience? Freshman year is fun (everyone hates you, but you don't know it), then after that, it goes WAY downhill. Junior year is hell, but you try to get through it because everyone tells you that Senior year will be laid back and fun. And it's not. It's just as hectic.

By Megofou (Megofou) on Wednesday, October 06, 2004 - 12:06 am: Edit

I thought sophomore year was the best. Freshman year the upperclassmen don't like you and at some point, it becomes noticable. Sophomore year they turn their dislike to the new freshman...and so do you. You're cool. You're experiencing all that there is and getting the best of it.

Junior year starts out alright...then you just realize how much work AP classes are. I can't speak for senior year because I took it PSEO, but I think I would have gone insane.

By Jason817 (Jason817) on Wednesday, October 06, 2004 - 02:11 am: Edit

heh. Hey, I wouldnt mind reading Divine Comedy three times! :)

By Anglophile (Anglophile) on Wednesday, October 06, 2004 - 10:56 pm: Edit

LOL-- Yeah, you're right Jason, I shouldn't be complaining. I'm having a really great time, even when revisiting Dante, Boccaccio, Machiavelli and Castiglione.

I highly recommend Boccaccio to anyone looking for a bit of renaissance naughtiness

My senior year, I dont necessarily HATE it but it annoys the heck out of me. I really am tired of taking "college level classes" in a full day. I dont party and i dont have any sense of school spirit. I dont go to school games and i didnt go to my homecoming this year cause i had SAT's the next day so i couldnt stay out late unfortunately. I love the dances though, they are always fun. I am looking forward to moving out of my house and goin to college. The college i am goin to is about 25-30 min. away from home and it now has BRAND new dorms *they never had dorms till this year*. My sister went to school there and graduated and is now a teacher. She is goin back to become a principle *scary*

I dont know, i guess im tired of the annoying high school attitudes and the lil kid drama. Freshman annoy me soooo much cause they act soo skanky and white trash like :( oh well i guess, it will end soon right?!?

By Collegerocks (Collegerocks) on Monday, October 11, 2004 - 02:33 pm: Edit

i agree with you silent angel, freshmen are soooooooo annoying!
