essay topic of ur own choice:
good idea for an essay?
when i was kid my feet were messed up... like crooked up; doc. said i needed surgery; tried physical therapy first; i worked hard; it worked; i like running now; i run track...

Sounds like a great topic. Only caution: Make sure that your personality and the specific ups and downs of your experience really come across. The admissions people want to get to know you as an individual, and they may not feel they're getting that if the essay sounds too much like a "chicken soup for the soul" entry or an inspirational speech;

i think as long as you show similar dedication in other areas of your life its ok. But if, for example, you talk about how you are really hardworking, and you have a 2.0 GPA, its not gonna work. Its tricky since it was so long ago, so you just gotta prove that that motivation hasnt left you.

Make sure it's not one of those fake-inspirational "and I learned that as long as you try hard enough, you will succeed" essays. God, those are cliche...
