Discus: College Life: Why do i even go to class?
By Virginia2004 (Virginia2004) on Monday, September 27, 2004 - 01:18 pm: Edit

My BIO 101 class is sooo boring and our teacher never teaches anything. What he does is just read what the powerpoint presentations say and I could do that myself because he posts them online. Theres like 150 people in my class so theres no attendance, its so easy to skip but i just cant. I've missed it once because i was sick but i feel like the day i skip it he's gonna give a quiz or something. Oh well im off to class now hopefully he'll do something other than read a powerpoint today.

well i mised my Poli sci 101 class today because its at 10:00 and i woke up at 9:42 and since I need to catch a bus just to get from my dorm to all my classes i just said forget it and went back to sleep. But i just came from my bio class and everything he said i already knew from reading the powerpoint before class.

I sleep through my Math 190 (Proof Theory) class far too often. Oh well. Class consists of people going up and sharing how the did a certain proof-- no biggie.

Oi! I'm having the exact same problem. I never should have taken this course. I've skipped more than I've gone and my grade is still 100%. It's ridiculous.

same here for different subjects. Nobody takes attendance and some classes are a joke so I consider skipping but I'm afraid they might give a pop quiz or something in which case, I'm screwed.

In my writing class (in Muir College at UCSD), which is a GE, you can't miss twice or you are dropped. Most professors don't take attendance, but make sure before you start skipping all the time.

you could always skip it and if for some reason he does give a quiz just e-mail him and tell him you were sick.

and when he says "tough luck" you'll be in trouble ;)

My bio teacher is also the same kind. All we learn is from the book. I so disappointed with this class. Probably that's the way biology should be taught .... LOL

By Hkab818 (Hkab818) on Sunday, October 03, 2004 - 03:27 pm: Edit

that basically goes for all my science classes, but especially biology. The lectures are all recorded, so I can listen to them online, and the prof posts her powerpoint on the website as well, so it's just the same as going to class! I've skipped 2 classes in total, and I feel that I'm still in good shape... but honestly, I don't plan on skipping a whole lot, because that might become a bad habit!!

Most of my teachers start deducting points [as in A to A-] if you miss more than 2 classes [unless it's for a legitimate reason, obviously]. My Chinese teacher won't let people make up quizzes [which we have weekly]. They also don't put as much online [my English teacher puts up NOTHING o_0] I'd feel too guilty missing class, plus my parents are paying oodles for me to go there, so may as well make it worth their while.

Nuuuuu! My bio professor noticed that 100+ students were skipping every day and is now taking attendance for a grade.

Bastardly.

I guess I'll have to go every day now and swipe my card...then sneak out the back door at the first chance. Or do Russian in there. I suppose I could treat it like a study hall from high school...
