Hi All.

I am deciding about studying at UM next year and was wondering what are the best housing options?

Apartments on campus?
Dorms (if so which are the best)?
Other?

If anyone knows which at UM are the best and any other information about social life and parties etc...

I'm in Hecht now and love it! Hecht and Stanford are identical, except that Stanford faces the intramural fields with a nice view and has 24 hour music practice rooms, and Hecht has the better looking elevators and slightly newer rooms. Both have community bathrooms, single-sex by floor, are next to the Wellness Center, consist mostly of freshman, and are the most social dorms. Mahoney, Pearson, and Eaton suite-style (one gender per suite-2 connected rooms, 1 bathroom). These are mixed with upperclassmen and athletes. Social life includes going to "The Grove", Sunset Place, South Beach, Sunset Place, the beach, Dadeland Mall, and CANES football games! In addition, the student body is very focused on academics and is very intelligent. The presence of the Presidential Debate on campus also makes people more politically opinionated. This school used to be known as "politically apathetic", but I do not feel that sense at all. Many of the students are here on academic scholarships which raises the academic atmosphere here. In high school, I was not that motivated, but here I am motivated by my intelligent peers, a supportive faculty, and a beautiful campus which helps ease the stress of a busy college life.

Hi Umiami,
thanks so much for your advice. I am living in australia right now and want to study abroad and I don't think I love the idea of sharing a bathroom with a whole floor of girls.

I see how it could be social but I'm wondering are the other dorms still social as I love to go out? How about the on campus apartments?? I will be in my third year of study when I come to UM!

Anyway, what is the greek scene like? Are there many parties etc...

THANKS HEAPS!
