I'm planning on going to a top school and was wondering if i should bring a system and tv. or are there tvs available in most dorms? My friends, many in the top 10%, are pretty hardcore gamers, i was wondering is this possible at college? We have lanfests and xboxlive games, do these ever happen? btw, some of the schools i'm considering are stanford, usc, ucla, the ivies, maybe some other nice cali ones...?

i know that I am bringing my Xbox with me to UCSB so that I can still play Halo.

I'm bringing my gamecube to UCSD so I can play Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Tales of Symphonia, etc. I never heard of tvs being available in dorms.

i'm bringing my PS2 so i can just chill out and play some Grand Theft Auto or Final Fantasy when i want a break or something. Plus, it acts as a DVD player.

If I remember correctly, here in BYU there aren't any TVs supplied in the common room but most people bring video games systems/TVs. Right now, school just started and there have already been a couple of Halo LAN games. I personally brought up my Gamecube and PS2 (and a laptop). When I got here I bought a nice small 13" TV as well. Videogames really are at every campus.

There are Playstation 2's, X-Boxes and Gamecubes in the Stanford library.

We play X-box live all the time. You should bring your own TV with though, if possible as the common ones are often in use.

So do all guys really play Videogames in college? I'm going to UCSD and I'm kind of afraid that I'm going to be the only hardcore gamer there :)

By Fendergirl (Fendergirl) on Friday, September 10, 2004 - 03:41 pm: Edit

yes. all guys really do play video games in college. trust mmeeee! and suprisingly, a lot of girls do too :)

(myself included)

By Welshie (Welshie) on Friday, September 10, 2004 - 04:19 pm: Edit

Jason817, fear not for I know of at least three folks (two buddies of mine and a roommate of one of them) that are going down to UCSD that are big gamers. I can speak from experience here at BYU that there is certainly no lack of video games. Heck, 16-man Halo games are pretty regular here.

By Jason817 (Jason817) on Friday, September 10, 2004 - 04:52 pm: Edit

Thats good to hear. And I never knew a girl that played many videogames, but I hear they are out there...somewhere :)

hey welsh - how'd you like Tales of Symphonia? I beat that game on mania recently. Awesome stuff.

By Welshie (Welshie) on Friday, September 10, 2004 - 05:01 pm: Edit

Man I loved it. As far as RPGs go, the story was so-so but man, it had that fun factor that just makes me want to keep playing it. I still have to go through my second playthrough on Mania though. Have you taken on the Sword Dancers/Abyssion? In Mania?

By Jason817 (Jason817) on Friday, September 10, 2004 - 06:38 pm: Edit

I keep forgetting to kill Sword Dancer 1 on every game so I never completed that part. I did beat Abyssion on hard mode (lvl 80 everyone, used an all-divide in the beginning, hard as hell). Never attempted him on mania yet :). And yeah, the storyline wasn't all that great; it's no Xenogears after all

By Welshie (Welshie) on Saturday, September 11, 2004 - 03:19 am: Edit

Haha. I still think the Second Coming will occur before a game comes out that is better than Chrono Trigger. That game was just plain great. The Sword Dancer fights are a bit of a disappointment. While it's arguable that Sword Dancer 3 is stronger than Abyssion, the fight isn't as exciting because he/it is a lot slower than Abyssion so you don't have to worry too much about him taking out all your characters (except if he gets close enough to all of them, at which point he does a spin blade attack that hits for a good 6000+ damage and is almost always followed up or setup with a 3,000+ damage attack meaning you WILL die if you aren't blocking).

By Candi1657 (Candi1657) on Saturday, September 11, 2004 - 04:08 am: Edit

The guys above me do nothing except play Halo 24/7.

By Jason817 (Jason817) on Saturday, September 11, 2004 - 04:46 am: Edit

Actually, I've never held an X-Box controller, nor have I played it on a PC before.

By Inopa (Inopa) on Thursday, September 16, 2004 - 12:46 am: Edit

so for a top tier college, its pretty lame to play video games rite?

By Candi1657 (Candi1657) on Thursday, September 16, 2004 - 12:48 am: Edit

I don't think it's lame...just weird in excess. However, so are a lot of other things.

Nah, as long as you have other things to do, video games are good to supplement your day.

Well, the common room in my dorm has a TV, but that's about it. All I brought with me was my laptop and a GBA, but I haven't touched the GBA, as my laptop has been enough to procrastina-I mean, take breaks between work >.>
Gotta love free games *coughgunboundamerica'sarmycough* And I've finally found other girls who also like to game [I was the only girl who really played VGs in my HS]

By Fendergirl (Fendergirl) on Friday, September 17, 2004 - 11:02 am: Edit
