I'm from MA, have a license here..Going to school in CA..should I get a license there too? Any real benefit (haha other than I don't like my MA picture). Also, I'm a pretty bad speeder, probably will get some tickets..if I have a MA license..will my insurance not go up? (cause my dad got a ticket when he was in Nevada, and insurance didn't find out...)

Do you plan on driving/visiting family over in California? Other than identification (for which I'm pretty sure your Massachusetts card will suffice), there might not be a real need for a driver's license in California for a while, at least as long as you're living on campus.

D transferred her license because the insurance was much cheaper in her college state.

Backhandgrip - did she transfer her car's registration or just her driver's license? And is she on your policy or is she paying her own? Just wondering because my older D is going out of state for college, too. I planned to call my agent regarding coverage while she is away but had not thought about her applying for a new license.
