UCSB and UCSD are more conducive to partying. Irvine is about the most boring place in Southern California. It is nothing more than a bathroom stop between L.A. and San Diego. There are pretty beaches miles from campus, but Irvine the town is stuffy, boring, and the campus is more academic than some. UCLA is okay for partying but the people study hard and there's no real sense of community.

I believe that a majority of UC Irvine students commute, which cuts down on campus-centered social activities.
I disagree about UCLA: from Westwood Village to on campus to the Greeks & nearby student housing just west of campus, many students are pleased with the sense of community; one sign of this is the very active alumni organization and other activities aimed at alumni.

if you want to party, the best UC's for that are UCSB, UCLA, and cal. UCSB has isla vista and is a downright party school, and la/berkeley have large greek scenes, game day parties, etc. UC Irvine is not much of a party town, but its only five minutes from newport, and im sure you can have a good social life anywhere if you get involved. UCSD is notorious for having no social life and la jolla is not a good college town by any means (beautiful though), but again, if you get involved im sure you can have a good time.
