I'm an international student and am planning to study in the US starting fall 2005. I know there are several classes that are required in college regardless of what your major will be. Can anybody tell me which classes you have to take in college, like how many foreign language classes and how many science and math classes etc.?! Thank you

It depends on the college and also on the particular school in the college (for example, engineering will usually have fewer general education requirements than arts & sciences). Schools generally have the requirements on their web-site usually in a course handbook, course requirement, or general education section. Typically, you will be looking at 3 to 4 semesters of language which at many colleges is waived if you have 3 to 4 years of the same language in high school and/or take a language test and score well; 6 to 9 hours of science (note a typical one semester course is 3 hours), 3 to 6 hours of math, 6 to 9 hours social science and history, 3 to 6 hours of writing courses, 6 to 9 hours of humanities (literature, cultural studies).
