I'm 20 right now and transferring to a university and I'll be 21 soon. I attended Jr. College for two years. I'll be living in the dorms this fall and I'll feel so old and dumb by living in the dorms when I'm 21. I should be graduating soon but I changed my major 3 times and I'll be a junior only. I just feel kind of uneasy about living with kids that are 2,3 years younger than me. Should I lie about my age or something? Is anybody in here in the same situation as me? I also won't know anybody at the school I'm attending. Can someone help?

If you're going to a big school, there're bound to be people around your age among the students. When you fill out the dorm forms, see if you can make any requests concerning your future roommate (they usually take students' requests on this issue into account). If you'll still find yourself stuck with someone 2-3 years younger than you, see the school's Residential Life/Student Affairs/etc. counselor (all schools have one). Good Luck!

I am in the same situation (junior transferring from community college), but I am not living on campus for the single fact that I have animals that I have to provide for. I shouldn't think living in the dorms at your age would be akward at all. I did live in the dorms for one year and really, by the time you're 18,19,20,21... age doesn't matter that much anyway. Many times you forget what year people are anyways. As a transfer and upperclassman, you should get priority housing in upperclassman dorms. There, you'll only be living with upperclassman anyway. Also, 21 really isn't that old. Last year, a guy that was on my swim team was 24 and lived in the dorms. He didn't appear to be any less integrated into the student life than anyone else. This year (his senior year) he's joining a frat! Don't let your age be an inhibition!

I agree with Alicia, don't judge people after age. People who are five years older or yonger than you might as well click better with you than people your age. Besides YOU ARE NOT OLD!!!! com on 21, your just a kid, and also a two year age difference is really nothing, 5 years is an age difference, but I'm 18 and I have friends who are from 15 to 26.
