My dad just lost his job and now instead of the *perfect* *tears* laptop I was going to get, I need to find a cheap laptop ($500ish?) . Any suggestions?
-Thanks

you can ask dell for refubrished lap tops. Probably you can get something decent for $500 thats used. If new, then I dont think so.
Good luck,
I know how you're feeling

Well, keep in mind that while most college students do bring computers, it's not absolutely necessary. Most schools have several computer clusters that are available for student use, and there are always library computers also. And rather than a laptop, you might consider getting a desktop, which is a cheaper option. In my opinion, you can't really find a laptop for $500 that is worth getting

for i think 600 or 700 you can get a G3 ibook new. it's a pretty good deal if you ask me. i know it's out of the $500 mark, but it's a worthwhile investment if you ask me. Mac is the way to go.

I agree. Macs have very stable operating systems so you will not have to be fixing your computer instead of doing homework. Even though the G3 is out of date, it should get you through college if you don't play heavy games or handle lots of multimedia if you must have a laptop. I would defenitley get more memory though. If you don't care, you could get a better desktop for that much money. I have also seen toshiba laptops (only a couple in the last year that were $699) with celeron processors. They are not great but will work.

find out what most of the computers at your school are before you buy a mac. I'm sure your school will support both, but if most computers on campus are PC, and you need to print or something like that at a different location, it can get confusing.
