Which school would provide the best balance between work and play, and offer the most potential with a degree from its institution?
Which has friendliest campus and best life style?
Does anyone know about the engineering programs at these schools?

I know someone who got a full ride to vanderbilt and was rejected by Wash U, which says something good about Wash U's students/selectivity, which continue to increase every year. Wash U has more of a "campus feel" than anywhere I visited (I went to about 20 schools), and seems like a lot is always going on. The people at both UVA and Vandy are pretty preppy, comparatively speaking. I'm biased because I'm going to Wash U, but I was barely even considering it one of my options until I visited...then I loved it so much that it was an easy decision. Visit for yourself, but I'd say some of Wash U's greatest strengths are definitely its campus and life style. My friend who is a potential engineering major chose a 1/2 tuition engineering scholarship to Wash U over MIT and Stanford.
