How realistic is it to bring a compact fridge to your dorm? Would it be handy or turn out to be a waste of space? Thanks...

A mini-fridge is a college essential. Wait to talk to your roommate, though, so you can work out who's bringing what.

oh please dont get a rental fridge (at least at my school its almost as expensive as buying your own and they're dirty and old).

Renting a fridge is almost as expensive as buying one, and if you're going to rent one for two or more years (living on campus), I'd recommend just going out and buying one. It's a much better investment, and you don't have to worry about what the heck the people who had it before you stored in it.
Make absolutely certain you check with your college/dorm before you buy one, though; they often have size limits and such.

Buy, don't rent, a fridge. Go to Sears or Costco - you can find them for about $100. Go for the slightly larger model if you have a choice - you'll love the extra space.
They really are a collegiate necessity.

I wouldn't call them a necessity. Plenty of people do fine without them. But they are not that expensive, and useful to have. Buying is definitely cheaper than renting, although if hauling stuff is a problem (e.g., if you have to fly to school) then you might want to rent.

You can get them for under $100. It's not like you want a big one anyway.

ya, but don't get a really small one, cuz then you wont' have any space in there. From my experience I found a 2.5 cu. ft is the best size, I had a 1.7 cu. ft last year in the dorm, it was too small.

definitely get one. go to walmart, they have pretty cheap ones, especially right before school starts

Rhonda, couldn't one just purchase the fridge in the college town? I'm sure there'll be a walmart... damned junk stores from Hell.

Actually, you never know. We were in Santa Barbara and there was no Target! Who's ever heard of a mid-sized California city without a Target?

Santa Barbara does have a KMart and Costco though. Or I guess I should say Goleta does.

don't go to walmart. it embodies all that is evil in the world. go to target.
