The latest grim statistics are out, one report is at Study: Alcohol is deadly habit on campuses". The article blames college drinking for 500,000 injuries, 1400 deaths, 70,000 rapes, and 600,000 assaults.
Can these numbers be real? I haven't actually tried to check the sources... The study also notes that "about 100,000 were unaware they had unprotected sex while they were drunk". How did they know by the time they took the survey?

Hey, my girlfriend of three years, wants to go to IU, a huge party school, but swears it won't hurt anything between us...she's fairly responsible now, but sometimes you just gotta worry...anybody have any thoughts?

IU just got named the #1 party school, but there are plenty of serious people there. It's a great college town and nice environment.

I think that every college can be labeled a "party school." Sad to say, but most college kids like to party. On my college campus it is rare to find someone who doesn't get drunk at least 3 nights a week. Most of these kids are underage and irresponsible. Personally, I think this is sad... these kids are here to further their education, not drink themselves stupid.

If there is so much drinking and partying on campuses these days where does one go to get away from this distructive behavior? Where do you go if you are Straight Edge?

Sobriety is mos def a bonus. You get like 1,000 times the free time and lucidity of 90% of everybody else around you. If you like to socialize and don't really mind mingling with intoxicated people, you can always be the D.D. which sometimes makes you out to be a hero.
I've learned not to mind not having a place to go be free, I learn how and whatever my imagination wishes and also have a part-time job. I wonder, how many students have to support themselves? If you have reality to live up to before graduation, managing your level of mental clarty and when you go and party or clubbing is CRITICAL. Otherwise, if you havent started working yet, your time is yours to spend as you want, which just ROCKS when you have so many new things to try (but not drugs or unprotected sex - both are too dangerous). Sobriety is also very sexy, but not without condoms!
and abstinence is a huge power move on your part.

I go to one of the "Stone Cold Sober" Schools as ranked by Princeton Review, and there is still much drinking. Overall, my school is about 60% drink regularly, 15% have drinking problems, and 25% do not drink at all. Frankly, "stone cold sober" schools simply does not exist. You'll find drinking everywhere. The question is what percentage of the population drink irresponsibly?

Sorry, it's 60% drink once in a while.

i think it's all good as long as you do it on a night when you don't have class the next day.
