I've had my heart set on attending NYU or Columbia U in fall 2005 for as long as I can remember. I've worked like a dog for a shot at those schools, and I feel my odds are pretty good. But the difficult (to myself) question that I pose is simply, is it worth it? To those who know, what is the academic environment like, the people, the dorms, is the food edible, etc. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I hear going to college in New York City can be stressful and easy to get caught up in alot of things, but if u dont mind that then go ahead. I hear Columbia is very diverse but for the most part i dont really know much about these schools.

kjones05: i really understand what it's like to have your heart set on a collegs (s). and yes... it is worth it. You've worked really hard and you should try your best to reap the benefits. Inmny ways, there's nothing better than NYC. The sights, people, food, cultures, shopping, museums, etc. It really is a great experience. The downside though, is that livin in NYC is a lot to get used to, just the busy streets and all the time action. This, along with getting used to college life can be really hard. Nevertheless, if you think you can do it, it really canb e a great experience. Columbia has a beautiful campus thats really a city within NYC. THe school has a diverse student body, the food is good, and the professors are really great. The writing/english classes are amazing. Sometimes, since youre living in NYC, professors plan "fieldtrips" to museums or areas of the city that are dealing with the class. Also, some of the largest publishing companies/ stock market/banks/etc. in the world are in NYC, so if youre aspiring career relates to something along those lines, living in NYC will be a major plus. Hope this helps, and good luck!

Have you visited both schools? You should definitely do that, get a feel for what they're like.
