Whenever I watch a movie or even a TV show that takes place at college, I always look at the dorm rooms and become insanely jealous. When I first got to college that's what I expected the dorms to look like. Are there any schools that actually have decent dorms? Or is it really just a fairytale?

Sure, some schools have good dorms... suite rooms, etc. Some older buildings are quite nice, while dorms built in the 60s & 70s are often sterile hallways with smallish rooms. Keep in mind that most apartments and homes shown in movies tend to be rather nicer than typical...

a single is a luxury i might now not know how to get thru college without. i was in a double for 2 semesters before i applied for and recieved a single. it took 4+ months to arrange. it might just be my persona, i love the friendly vibe of college dorms, but prefer to be alone. i was planning to transfer to a school that had an environment of mostly single dorms, and less party-prone with more intellectualism. now, i have my own tiny space to study and work without the threat of drunk or high students showing up and all that, which is tolerable, obviously, even if i'm not like that. i imagine some students have gone thru a whole bachelor's surrounded by night time lunacy. even if a dorm isn't compatible for one student, there's always options like transferring to a more fitting school, but is the social scene what you want, do you want to be close to home, what about the academics? is that kind of change worth the hassle? could be. most students, as freshmen, i've seen just mellow out and get into the dorm life, its too much fun even if packed into one tiny, highly decorated little rectangular cube. college tends to be "the best time of our lives" at least that's what people keep saying.
