Hey guys,
I know this has been brought up before, but I would like your opinion on which laptop i should buy for college in US. I will be a freshman this fall and I will only have a FEW HOURS in the US to buy all my sheets/lamps/comp for my room. So I have to decide on a laptop now.
I will be using the laptop primarily for work (or at least i should be), and downloading music/movies and buring CDs. I would like a laptop that is reliable, has a good battery life, looks good and one that i can carry around. (id rather that its powerful, reliable and heavy than just light and pretty though)
Thanks so much!

I think you said in another post that you are going to p'ton. If so, p'ton sends you info on buying a computer through their IT department. If you buy through them you get a laptop that is configured for the p'ton intranet and loaded with software used at pton. Plus, service is on campus for systems purchased through them. cheaper too. check out the new pton class of 2007 website.
also-shopping on route 1 near princeton is extensive so don't buy everything for your room until you are there-regular buses from campus to shopping.

Hi Londoner,
I remember you saying on another thread that you had applied to Oxford for Ancient and Modern History, been rejected and then accepted for Modern History (is that right? I think so but I can't be bothered to go check).
Anyway, I hope you don't mind me asking, but if you had been accepted to Oxford for Ancient and Modern History in the first place, would you still have decided to attend Princeton?
There's no real reason why I want to know, I just find it interesting why people pick certain unis over others.

If you're looking for an all around good computer, you should get the acer travelmate 803LCi. It's on the expensive side (about 2500 dollars) but is great in every way. Decent battery life, about 6 pounds, large hard drive for your downloaded music and movies, a cdrw/dvd drive, and a fast centrino pentium m 1.6 ghz CPU (which includes wireless connection at pton). See you there next year.

Whatever laptop you decide to purchase, if there's an extended warranty option, go for it. My roommate has a Dell laptop and, after accidentally hitting it too many times with a volleyball, she opened it up one day and the screen snapped off. Since she had decided to sign up for the three-year warranty program, she called them and asked what to do. They sent her a special laptop box; she sent it back to them and, in a little over a week, she had her computer back, good as new. Warranty = good.

On the parents board there is a thread on where to find bedding and dorm supplies, many sources online which will delay shipping until you need it.
