Ok i know this is stupid but do you ussually need your textbooks on the first day of class? because I can't get an algebra book until monday because the ups or fedex guy didn't show up today

Nahhh, you'll be fine. Many students wait until after the first day because they are afraid the prof will say, "Don't buy the listed book, we only use one chapter in it. Buy this other book instead." Those who wait, though, risk the bookstore running out.

Also, if you are really hard-pressed for money, explain this to your professor. He/She can order the book for you directly from the publisher, usually at a very big discount. I had a professor order me two books, which would have cost $100 each. I got them both for $100. Also, I think the professor has to order in bulk, but I am not sure.
