I've been posting about NYU and how expensive it is beforehand and how I felt like I hadn't gotten enough money in my package based on the fact that other schools had given me so much more and had lower tuitions than NYU. I found out that you can do something called an appeal of your application with NYU, where you call the financial aid office and ask for your information to be looked over once more to see if there is anything else they are willing to give to you. It takes about 2 days to be done and I'm having mine done right now. Hope this is helpful; also see the last thread I started called "Has anyone else asked for more money?" located a little bit down the page.

Hi! I'm thinking of applying to NYU, but I am concerned that they won't offer me enough financial aid (assuming I get accepted). Is this pretty much true as far as you know? I have an odd situation seeing as I am 26 now and therefore "independent" yet I am so broke that my EFC is 0. I have no problem taking out loans, but there's no way I would or could take out enough to cover the total cost. I definitely need grants or scholarships to supplement my loans. Is NYU good at distributing those or not really?

Oh, wow, I'm applying to NYU (dream school), but I'm confident that there would be NO money available. My sister applied for FAFSA for a public university, and got a $2000 student loan. !!! That's probably to improve with NYU ($40,000/a year), but still won't be enough to cover. Parents are upper middle-class, and they won't pay for private school. HELP! i've been looking for scholarships, but it seems to be a dead end, since there are only $1000 scholarships or so, and that won't make a dent in tuition. And, I was wondering, I have no problem taking out student loans, but is it that I have to declare myself as an independent to do that? I'm confused about that. HELP!!!!

A friend of mine got about $20,000 from NYU and asked for more so they gave him another $2000. I don't know if that helps but I thought it was pretty nice

How did your friend go that? What was his/her financial situation?

They had given him what his EFC said he needed, but he just talked to someone and asked for more and they gave it to him
