Is the age of the parent considered when considering financial aid? Neighbor kid is wondering about paying for college. Father is almost 70, retired and income is from retirement accounts only. Mom is in her 50's and has income, but not a huge one. Is this kid at an advantage for aid because he has an older than parent who has no earned income?

My understanding is that the age and proximity to retirement IS considered when awarding need based aid. I'm not sure how that is done, but apparently it is.

Yes, in fact they ask the age of the older parent on the FAFSA, and take that into account when doing calculations.
