OK, so according to my PSAT scores, I should be scoring a 1530 on my SATs; however, in reality, both of my SAT scores have been around 1430. Should I retake the SAT, or what?

There's a chance you can improve if you take the SATs again in a few months (during which you work on math and vocabulary skills) I went up over a hundred points in between two times taking it, so that's definitely possible. But PSATs are not a completely accurate predictor of your SAT scores, and if you feel like you've gotten as high as you can go, you should just accept the 1430, which is a great score and nothing to worry about

If you are asking whether you need to retake the SAT in order to ensure that you achieve National Merit Finalist status, I would say no. I've known National Merit semifinalists who have become finalists with SAT scores in the low 1,300's.

However, if you are considering applying to colleges where scoring higher than 1430 would
impact your chances for admissions or scholarships, it might help to take the test again. I would suggest contacting the colleges to which you are planning to apply and/or the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for further clarification. ( Example: Harvey Mudd offers a $5,000 merit scholarhship which requires at least a 700 Verbal SAT I and a 750 Math SAT I. )

I got a 1400 on my SAT-- this won't hinder me in the process to become a Finalist, will it?
