Hi, all. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they knew when final "first choice colleges" were due in to NMSC by. I ask because I am considering two colleges which give good NM scholarships, and I'm a finalist, but I'm visiting them this week and do not desire to choose one and alert NMSC to my choice too late, only to get a letter in the mail on March 3rd telling me that time's up and I got an award that I didn't want. I've searched and searched for an e-mail address to send my question to but I've found none. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Call National Merit and ask for the date; their phone number is on their website. The deadline is usually sometime in the first week of May.

You can FAX in the selection, so it's very possible to wait until the May 1st deadline to send in your deposit with the college and fax NMSC at the same time. (My son did this and has a $2000 annual college-sponsored NM scholarship).

My son changed his first choice late in April by faxing the change to NMSC. He, too, was awarded $2000 / year by the school he changed to. You can wait. I think last year we had to make the change by April 25 or so. Anyway, you can wait until you see where you get accepted and make your first choice the school you decide to attend.
