My second choice college has offered a full ride. They say I must accept or decline by Feb. 20. Meanwhile, my first choice does not process aid until April. I'd like to know what my first choice offers before I decide. Any suggestions?

Contact your first choice college ASAP and tell them about your other offer. Tell them they are really your first choice. You also need to think about finances -- will a full ride be necessary for you to afford going to college, or is it nice but not necessary? The worst that will happen is that your first choice will still say they can't tell you anything before April, but they may be able to give you the equivalent of a "likely" response.

it also depends on how different the schools are.. e.g., ur first choice might be stanford and 2nd choice -- Yukon Comm College. Of course, I am exaggerating, but u know what I mean.

There's also a question for Dave Berry here. What happens if you say yes to the second choice college now, and then the first choice college offers a free ride deal in April? Is it like Early Decision, where you essentially sign a binding contract? Or is like you've already sent in your $300 deposit, but get accepted off the waitlist at HYP and have nothing to lose but your deposit? I don't know how binding a commitment you have to make, and if there are any legal/ethical ways out of it.
