College Discussion Forums: Financial Aid and Scholarships: March 2003 & Earlier Archive: A Simple Question

This is a simple question, that I'm sure does NOT have a simple answer, but I need to ask it.

Almost everything I read about financial aid says "Apply even if you think you won't qualify." My question is: at what point do you look like a greedy jerk applying for financial aid? Is there an AGI level beyond which you shouldn't bother? Or a savings amount that screams "you've got enough money, you fool!"

Thanks in advance.....

Relax - we've been told by several schools that we must register for financial aid (FAFSA, PROFILE) in order to receive any merit scholarships. So I would think virtually all applicants do the financial aid thing. Just finished ours (estimated 2001 figures) and boy, is it a pain!!
