My daughter is applying to Carnegie Mellon. They want their own fin aid form (and FAFSA) by Feb. 15 with 2002 return as well. They specifically state: don't send 2001 or estimates. We itemize our return (complex and a CPA does it) and don't get our W2s till late Jan. How are you supposed to get taxes done by CPA and to the college in only two weeks?

If Carnegie Mellon absolutely insists on a final tax return (rather than estimates) by Feb. 15, you may have to file your return based on the best available information and then do an amended return later.

Amended returns really aren't as scary as they may seem (I'm an accountant, by the way).

All W-2's and 1099's should be mailed to you by Jan. 31. However, some investments send out K-1 forms, which often don't arrive until late February or later.

Good luck!
