I'm kind of confused on how to get it. Is it true that you can just bring the application to your college or is it high school? counselor to help you fill out applications for financial aid. This one program called National Student Financial Aid said they were able to help me get financial aid and calculate from my parents' income on how much I had to pay. They charged a lot of money though. I didn't think it was worth it. Were they ripping me off or was it worth it? I'm really confused and I hope this doesn't happen again because a friend of my moms told her you could apply for FA yourself just the way they could help you. Please explain! Thanks.

Don't pay any service to help you apply for financial aid. They are not worth it. Actually, it is your parents who will have to do most of the paper work for FA, not you. They have to provide information on income, assets, etc. If you need help, go to your high school guidance office. They should have a list of resources for you to help you and your parents out.
