My parents don't want to complete the financial forms unless they know we'll get something. As to resources, heard that they count 6% of parents money, and about 50 % of your own. Is is true? What other kind of resources are considered? Like retirement, home equity etc. BTW, am applying for private not state school ED

Formal retirement plans (IRA's, 401-K's, etc.) are not counted. FAFSA doesn't count home equity, but I believe the College Board's PROFILE does assume some contribution from that. This will vary from school to school.
Use the financial aid calculators linked from this site to get a pretty accurate read on whether your EFC will exceed your anticipated cost.
