I just submitted it!

November 1st filing deadline.

Is the FAFSA similar? I have to fill that all out on January 1st.

When will I get an official 'EFC'? After I fill out the FAFSA? Or will the CSS Profile calculate an EFC as well?

I have never received any info from Profile. I do both online ( Fafsa & Profile) but only the FAFSA allows for corrections and calculates EFC.
We found that the forms generated by the college, give an opportunity to correct errors that may be in the PROFILE.

I also found that the calculators at finaid.org were pretty accurate at estimating eventual EFC.

what is CSS for, exactly? student loans from the school? or need-based scholarships? or merit-based scholarships??thx

Some schools require the CSS profile in addition to the FAFSA. You would have to look at each school you are applying to to know if they require the Profile. The CSS Profile can be accessed at the College Board website. You fill it out on line and submit it to whatever colleges you want (for a fee of course!) It asks for much more financial detail than the FAFSA and usually needs to be submitted at the same time as the FAFSA. Hope this helps!

Yes. Or, put it this way: I've never seen a CSS deadline earlier than an application deadline.

Actually, Yale has an earlier deadline. Register by October 1.

Fortunately, blowing the deadline, as I did, would only delay receiving a FA package - it would come after an admissions letter, that we should be so lucky.

Och, the registration deadline. Yeah. I was thinking of the CSS submission deadline, which is November 1. Agreed, may we be so lucky.

About 48 hours to go...hope that essay whips into shape tonight.
