You don't have to do anything special to be considered for the scholarship, although USC's app does state that 100-120 full rides are offered every year, and SAT/ACT scores are in the top 1-2% of all test takers.
An interview is required of all finalists for the scholarship, provided you hope to win it.

I received the trustees scholarship
Stats:
SAT I: 1490
SAT IIs: Chem, Bio, Math 2C, and Writing all in mid to high 700s
GPA: 3.72 UW, but I had like 70 college units
ECs: Reseearch, community service, national awards, same ol', same ol'
Advice: Whatever the question is for the scholarship essay, don't think about it too much. Don't overpolish it. Don't censor yourself, but always make sure each sentence has a purpose. Concise is good. For the interview, just don't screw up. My interview was a joke, but I was later told that people were so burdened by the consequences of this one interview that they froze up or made some glaring error. At the time, I didn't really care about the interview because I didn't intend to come here anyways, so I was natural and unaffected.

So...are you still applying out? and just for all of our information...what's your take on usc?
| By Tro348a (Tro348a) on Friday, November 21, 2003 - 04:27 am: Edit |
Yes, I'm still applying out. For all concerned, USC has its good and its bad. On one hand, the facilities are updated, I personally am advised by no less than three departments each semester, the friends that I've made are brilliant, and the non-science teachers are excellent. On the other hand, the vast majority of students are average at best, the frat/party scene dominates, the dorms are squalid, the food (Parkside withstanding) is horrible, classes fill up QUICKLY. The main problem with the school is that is so MEDIOCRE. It's not that I'm looking for braniacs, but rather that there are people that can process information and discuss with original thought, but, here, it's lacking at best.

| By Bmurry (Bmurry) on Monday, December 01, 2003 - 04:50 pm: Edit |
I am applying for merit scholarships.
1480 (750M 730V)
Math IIc 800, Chem 740, Writing 690
UW 3.2 W 3.7
10 AP's
94/448 HORRIBLE
Swim Team Captain
National Merit Semi (so far)
and various other EC's
I have a decent reason for my GPA but still...
I know (if admitted) I will get the National Merit 1/2 tuition scholarship but I am not sure if I will get anything else. A full ride would help out alot.
Fight on!

hey,
I am also hoping to receive the trustee. usc is my 1st choice school over stanford right now because of the financial aspect. If i get a full ride, I know its the best of both worlds: top tier school, fun school and i dont need to pay.
My stats:
SATI:Math:800
Verbal:690
Academics:perfect 4.0 unweighted GPA, valadictorian of a class of 502.
8 AP classes, every other core class was honors.
Long list of extracurriculars with lots of dedication to top 5-6 including: Varsity tennis, peer mediation, march of dimes council, key club, ect.
I am a good, but not great writer and took lots of time on my essay. On a scale of one to ten its probably about a 7.
Can I PLEASE get feedback on my chances of getting the scholarship, my stat's overall, and stats of past trustee winners/losers as well as others applying this year.
THANKS -g

i'm hoping for the trustee also...
SAT I: 1450
SAT II: 760/740/710
Academics: 2/234 ~ 4.0 unweighted GPA ~ National Merit Semi-Finalist (selection number 228)
almost all the honors and AP classes available at school
LOTS of ECs: class pres, student newspaper founder and editor in chief, varsity captain, youth rep on city board of directors, volunteer tutor and coach, leadership in one club, theatre, dance, yadda yadda...
what exactly do they look for?
