I have noted on the University of Kansas website that they are discontinuing the generous scholarship offer formerly provided to all National Merit finalists. Only Kansas residents are now eligible. It also seems that Iowa State is discontinuing its National Merit scholarships. How many other universities are doing this?

The Univeristy of Kansas is offering $5,000 to out of state National Merit Finalists for incoming freshman in 2003 instead of the full tuition plus room and board that they offerred in previous years.

Provided she names ISU as her first choice if she is named a National Merit Finalist, my daughter was offered a full ride as an instate student at ISU, so you may need to research this more. They keep sending her partly completed applications, which she has not solicited.

It is my understanding that ISU is discontinuing "automatic" full ride scholarhips to all National Merit Finalists. It appears that ISU as well as KU are continuing to offer full rides to instate NM finalists. The ISU website says that out of state NM finalists may still receive substantial scholarships but full rides are not automatic.

Thanks for the clarification. I just wanted to make certain that no one mistakenly counted them out.

I'm unfamiliar with this website and perhaps this question is addressed elsewhere, but can anyone tell me how I can find out which colleges offer automatic full or partial tuition scholarhips to National Merit Finalists? Thanks for your help.
