I'd appreciate some feedback from parents / others who can speak to the pay-off of student loans. What do most students do regarding ~the actual logistics~ of paying back their loans?

Son is a senior this year. Though he attends college out-of-state he uses our home address and phone number for student loans (original app and annual renewal). We have been receiving cold calls and mailings from various companies wanting to consolidate his student loans for him. Obviously, we're not discussing / divulging any financial or other personal information to cold calls nor have we pursued anything that has come in the mail. But, we would like to offer son some reasonable guidance and not just refer him to SallieMae or other websites.

Thanks.

I'm no expert on this topic, but I'd look at the interest rates carefully in any kind of consolidation offer. Some student loans have subsidized rates and terms, and you wouldn't want to lose that advantage in a consolidation process.

In general, I think the actual lenders will send the student payment info after graduation.
