I have a friend who doesn't feel he can go to anywhere more than community college because of how much school would cost...I've told him that there's all kind of financial aid available, but he's still a little skeptical...so I was wondering, does anyone know what the approximate EFC would be for a family with $40,000 a year income and 5 family members, him being the only one in college? I'm not looking for anything very specific, just approximate...

This has a calculator for both federal and institutional methodology that is pretty accurate.

Warning, even if schools state that they meet 100% of need, that need may be met by any combination of loans , grants and workstudy.

There is no shame involved in attending a community college, and then transferring, however most CC do not have dorms and IMO a commuter experience is not optimum.

I went to Princeton's Finaid calculator and the financial aid it gave me was terrible. The EFC was around 33000 and everywhere else(including Dartmouth and www.finaid.com)'s gave me an EFC of around 4000. Princeton is reputed to meet 100% need! Any one has any comment on this?
