Alfred has one of the top ceramics programs in the U.S. but don't know much about its other programs. Full ride to University of Kansas is only for Kansas residents starting this year. University of Oklahoma, University of Nebraska, Arizona State, University of Arizona, University of Florida and New College of Florida also give full rides or close to full rides for National Merit Finalists.

As far as I'm aware, any state school in Florida offers a full ride. (More than full, actually; I made money from it.)

Xitammarg - what school do you go to, and are u a FL resident?

By Raky (Raky) on Sunday, December 21, 2003 - 06:35 pm: Edit

May be you already know Rutgers and TCNJ (possibly NJIT) are full ride for in-state for SAT 1500+ and being in top 5% in the class. TCNJ is full ride for out-of-state students also.

By Jnatkins (Jnatkins) on Sunday, December 21, 2003 - 08:59 pm: Edit

Rutgers isn't a completely full ride as far as I'm aware, but the difference is like 400 some dollars per year

I don't know aabout the 400,but according to the charts we were sent, what raky said was true.

Does anyone know if Florida State gives anything to national merit finalists? I searched their website and saw nothing on the issue.

Sunshine, ceramics majors are often taken for crackpots.

All these schools offering great aid for NM...and my D has absolutely no interest in any of them.

Actually - Alfred has a well known ceramics engineering program. (They also have one in art but the one they are known for is in engineering since not a lot of schools offer industrial ceramics majors.) Overall, Alfred is best known for its engineering programs, and, while not well known, is a fine school.

I have not had direct experience with NM finalists in the last few years but several years ago I knew of kids that got full rides (or maybe full tuitions) at Richmond and GW by indicating that they were their first choice schools. A lot has changed so I don't know if that situation still exists but it might be worthwhile to take a looksee. I knew these kids and their families quite well so I know that this opportunity existed but it has been about 4-5 years.
