This question is mainly to the people who aren't applying to ivies... I just wanted to know what you guys thought about just settling and going to the state university.
My state university is in my city (so there would be no room & board fees, etc...), and since I live in Nevada, I'd be able to use the Millenium Scholarship which would pay for like 95% of all my fees. In addition, I'm sure I'd be able to get enough private scholarships to take care of the rest with maybe even extra left over.
However, the downside is that quality of education is rather poor.
But at the same time, my family isn't rich, and I we'd be hard up if I attended Rutgers (my choice university).
So what are your thoughts? Should I settle for undergrad schooling so that I can save even more to get into Rutgers grad school?

Does this nearby state university have an Honors College? This might make a good deal of difference. More and more state schools are adding them as a way to entice more top-level students.

I think State schools are just fine. Outside of size I would not worry about going else where. My Dad has always pushed the fact that the key to a good education is what you make of it not what they pour into you. He went to a third tier state school and spent a lot of time in the Library and has supervised top 25 college grads. If they have an honor's school as part of the University you get small classes too.
