Does anyone know what is needed to qualify for one of these scholarships for an out-of-state student? My son has a 1600 SAT I but his SAT IIs are weaker (720/700/690). His ECs aren't spectactular, either - basically a couple of sports, a couple of clubs, hospital volunteer and other various community service projects plus a summer course in architecture for high school kids at a local university.
His weighted GPA is 4.2 and he takes the most rigorous curriculum at his school. He's a National Hispanic Scholar and will likely be a National Merit Finalist as well. I know his grades and tests are good but he's just not a leader or a joiner. He'd love to go to UNC but he'd need merit aid. This scholarship looked like a good bet but I still worry about the ECs, both for admission AND for the scholarship.
If anyone has knowledge of what's required, I'd appreciate your input.

I have a friend who got this. she's a white female from maryland. her gpa was a 3.9 (unweighted) and 5.3 (weighted) she was third in her class, 1490 SAT I. varsity sports, nhs president, mock trial, ap scholar and had a job.
at unc getting scholarships in competitive. keep that in mind. but your son has good looking stats.
