Hi I am an Indian Girl in the 12th grade(I think most of you guys will call that a High School Senior).I gave my SAT-1 last year in November and I got 640 in verbal(that sucks!!!! ) and 770 in maths - and that's a total of 1410.This year I gave it again on May 3, so that I could improve on my Verbal score(I think it will be better this time round-my finger's are crossed). My results should be out tomorrow. My subjects are-English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Computers. I'm in the top 20% of my school. What I would really like is to get into a prestigious university in the States-any of the Ivy Leaugues or MIT or a college that good. I'm pretty worried about money though.I come from a upper-middle clas family in India- but I don't think that I want my parents to pay over 6000$ per year-so that ways I'll be needing a lot of aid. Is it true that only the really prestigious universities give full aid???
I really want to get a US college education.....so can anybody please estimate the amount I'll be able to get as aid.

Basically your verbal score is not baad.. it doesnt suck by any means.. anyways $6000k year isnt much honestly and for places like mit etc etc ur looking at around 90 to 100% fin aid.. sorry to be blantantly rude but chances of that are unlikely unless u come up with a whopper look at univs that are low ranked but give good fin aid deals such as williams etc. merit schols are also an option. Places like gatech and uiuc are very well ranked in top 2 3 types but they cost around 20$k a year so I would suggest look at some avg colls and boost ur app much higher try getting better scores etc etc btw u can also get a 15 lakh loan which is aroun 30k$ that can fund u 2 years.. look at that option as well.. btw it is true they give full aid but only to 1 or 2 ppl from whole of India so i guess u know what u r up against!!!!If u want i can give some gyaan if u can fwd me ur entire stats in detail at a b h i s h e k_@justmailz.com (just remove the spaces added those to protect from spam!)

ok thanks Hrithink...see..the 6000$ deal is the avg amt I'm allowing them to pay for me....I can like stretch it like till 10000$......I know that they'll readily pay more....but I don't want them too......by the ways since you know so much-I'd like to know a little bit about you..like what you are doing and stuff?

well the money factor is your wish but in the end wont be determined by u but by the univ. How were ur scores btw?
I got thru places like CMU, UMICH,Gatech and UIUC for fall 2007 and im heading to UIUC. for comp eng.. btw which major u lookin at..

2nd time round, my scores were worse than before.
verbal=690(improvement of 50 mks)
maths=660(kinda seems impossible 'coz I got 770 in nov)
total=1350
But I've been talking around and ppl say that the universities look at the better scores.....so that'll be 690 V + 770 M = 1460(which is good enough).......and about my major, I still have'nt decided-maybe computer engg...

a lotta schools take the best verbal score and the best math score and then add it up there are some who take the best score on one given test day most of them are in the 1st category the only major univ im aware in the second one is UMICH.
Well, your major will be very important in deciding your school cuz most IVY leagues do not have great eng programmes i guess besides cornell.. and here dont follow the Indian mentality that if its Harvard any course is good from Harvard.. here if one course rocks the other course can suck bigtime.. so dont just hook on to the brand wagon!!
