I took Math IIC in 10th grade and scored a 740. Not too bad, seemingly, but since almost everybody who gets into Harvard has an 800 and 740 is in the 70%tiles... also took Math IC on the same day (I was a sophomore and clueless), and got a 720, slightly higher percentile but certainly not amazing.

If I were very confident in my ECs, I definitely wouldn't stress about this, but since my ECs are pretty commonplace (no RSI, no grants, no publications, no state records in swimming, just a lot of school clubs and sports and some family and community things) I'd have to rely more on strong academics and test scores.

My standardized test scores are pretty skewed in favor of english and literature (800V, 800Writing, 800 Lit, 770 bio (2nd try), 790 chinese which was a chinese school graduation requirement) I managed to raise my SAT I math score from a 720 to an 800, but they're going to see that despite having a math professor for a father, math isn't my strong point.

I missed the deadline for November's test date, so basically December is all I have left. I'm sure that I can raise my score by at least a few points, but is it worth it? I definitely don't want to take a standardized test again for a while...but my parents keep saying that 740 is going to put me at a big disadvantage against other Asian applicants.

Please help!

if you're so worried just take it. it's just an hour. no one can say for SURE if it will make a difference, and if you think you'll live to regret it or if you don't want your parents saying "we told you so" in the event that you get rejected, just take the stupid thing. It's not like you'll have to study. I took the IIc in 10th grade too and got a 730, then I took it junior year with no practice just because I was taking some other ones and I got an 800 no problem whatsoever. Will it really matter? probably not, but if you'll feel better, just do it, it's not that big a deal.

Thanks! I've chickened out on taking it so many times that I might as well I guess...and get the four 'free' school reports.
